Once you arrive
at Day Surgery International or Singapore Day Surgery Center, our friendly nursing staff will go thorough a routine admission check with you. Our nursing staff will discuss your medical/surgical history, take your vital signs, and answer your questions. The staff will attempt to alleviate any anxiety you may have and give you an idea of what to expect with reference to your surgery.
After that is done, you will be called into the Day Surgery Admission Suite. You will be asked to remove all clothing, including undergarments and jewelry. We will provide you with a gown, robe, cap, and slippers that you will wear during your stay. You will be assigned a personal locker in which you will place your belongings. The key can be secured to your identification bracelet or given to your escort.
Personal belongings such as dentures, hearing aides, glasses, contact lenses and piercings should also be removed prior to going into the Operating Theatre.

A staff will meet you in the admission suite and escort you to the operating theatre. Upon entering the OT you will be introduced to the surgical team.
You will remove your outer robe and lie on the narrow operating room bed, where monitoring equipment will be applied to some parts of your body that help the surgical team observe your blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygenation level.
If you are receiving sedation or general anesthesia, or if you require medications intra-operatively, an intravenous line will be inserted and medication administered via that route. |

When your surgery is complete, you will be brought to the recovery bay. The Recovery Nurse in charge of you will meet you and introduce him/herself. The nurse will then perform an initial assessment and will place some monitoring equipment on you. The blood pressure cuff is automatic and will be taken on regular intervals of 30 minutes. You will be assessed frequently for pain management and monitored for postoperative symptoms.
For patients who receive anesthesia assistance, the average recovery time is 1.5 hours. Once you are alert and awake, you will be provided with light nourishment: fluids and biscuits. |
